Trash and Yard Waste Collection

 

The City of Liberty prides itself on having a comprehensive solid waste management program.  This program includes trash and yard waste collection, curbside recycling, drop-off recycling, and participation in a household hazardous waste collection program

Trash & Recycling Collection

All trash and recyclables must be placed at the curb or roadside no later than 7:15 a.m. on the day of collection.  To find out your collection day, call 816.439.4514.

 

Payment

All residential households must pay a service charge for curbside trash and recycling collection.  The charge is $10.52 per month for trash collection and $3.03 per month for recycling collection.  The City will include the payment on your water bill.  Questions regarding billing or payment should be directed to the City’s Finance Department at 816.439-4463.

Holiday Collection

Trash and recycling collection will not be made on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Service will be one day late for the remainder of the week following the holiday.

 

Exemptions

Anyone 65 years or older or physically handicapped may be eligible for a partial service charge credit for trash collection but not for recycling.  For details, call the Finance Department at 816.439-4460.

 

Materials Not Eligible for Collection

·   Yard wastes such as grass clippings, leaves, edgings, bush and branch clippings (unless you have signed up for yard waste services.  See section on Yard Waste or call 816.439.4514 for more information.)

·   Christmas Trees (The City offers a drop-off site for Christmas tree collections for a limited time during the holidays; check local papers, website or Time Warner Channel 2 for dates or call 816.439-4514.)  Reminders will also be distributed via the News Flash, the City’s email news service.

·   Appliances and tires are not accepted at Missouri landfills; contact a private hauler for these items.

·   Concrete rock and trash from remodeling or roofing, major repairs, construction or demolition scraps.

·   Household hazardous waste including motor oil and auto batteries (see section on HHW disposal information.)

·   Large and excessive quantities of dirt or sod.

·   Waste materials from a business or enterprise at a residence.

·   Hot coals or fireplace ashes.

 

Yard Waste Collection

Residents who are interested in yard waste service may order it directly from BFI Waste Services at 816.254.1470. Yard waste collection is available March 1 through December 31 for $115.80; contact BFI for payment options.  A 90-gallon yard waste tote is available from BFI if desired.  The tote can be placed curbside each week with recyclables and trash.  Stickers can also be purchased for $4 per bag at City Hall.  Stickers are also available at Hy-Vee and Price Chopper (prices may vary).  Stickers should be placed on brown lawn bags.  There is a 10-bag limit.


Regional Brush/Yard Waste Drop-Off Facility

Liberty residents can also take advantage of a regional brush/yard waste facility in Gladstone. Fees apply.

Residential Program - Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Commercial Program - Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The facility is located at Gladstone Public Works, 4000 NE 76th St.  Proof of residency must be presented at the time of payment. All materials are ground for reuse as beneficial mulch and compost. For more information about the facility or associated fees, call 816.436.5442 or

Annual Clean-Up Week

The City sponsors two clean-up weeks.  They are the last full week of April and October; watch your local newspapers and/or cable channel 2 (for Time Warner subscribers) for details as the date nears.
