Liberty reducing permit fees for new residential homes
With approval by the Liberty City Council earlier this year, the City of Liberty has introduced a building permit fee reduction program for new single-family residential homes through which the first 30 qualifying permit applications could see an 80 percent savings in the costs associated with such permits.

“The goal of this program is to spur residential construction in Liberty,” said Liberty City Council member Jeff Watt, who championed the program. “The benefits to this community are many. We could not only see increased property tax and personal property tax revenues, but we could also bring in new customers to Liberty businesses and more sales for Liberty’s construction suppliers.”

For an application, visit www.ci.liberty.mo.us/building and click on 2010 Residential Incentive Program. To read the full press release, click here.

New task force setting the stage for innovation business park
A new Science and Technology Executive Task Force is building a foundation for Liberty’s economic future. The 14-member task force is taking the next steps to bring a technology and innovation business park to Liberty with the ultimate goal of improving Liberty’s workforce, technology opportunities and business growth.

“While other cities have staggered through these tough economic, we are persevering and preparing to come out of this recession stronger than ever,” said Liberty Mayor Greg Canuteson. “This won’t happen overnight. But if we start now, in the dark hours of this recession, we will be better positioned than other cities when the economy turns around.” To read the full press release, click here.

Annual Spring Clean-up and Open Tree Limb Disposal Area
The items must be placed at the curb or roadway on your regular trash day. Each item, with the exception of large pieces of furniture, must not exceed 45 pounds or be longer than 4 feet. All items must be securely tied, bagged, or bundled.

The following items will not be accepted and should not be placed at the curb for pickup: tires, hazardous waste (including paint, insecticides, chemicals or batteries), appliances, refuse from remodeling, roofing or major repairs, yard waste, or concrete, rock, and rubble.

In addition to the curbside pickup, the City will also open the tree limb disposal area for citizens with proof of Liberty residency. The site will be open to Liberty residents during the designated times only. Liberty residents must provide proof of residency (driver's license, city water bill, etc.). The tree limb disposal area will be open from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. April 19-23 and from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. April 24. The disposal site is located on new 210 Highway, approximately ½ mile east of Highway 291. Residents should watch for signage on the north side of new 210 Highway identifying the site area. Only tree limbs may be brought to the area. Other yard waste will not be accepted. No commercial vehicles will be allowed to access the site.

Buckle Up to Avoid a Ticket and Arrive Alive
Nearly one in four Missourians still fail to regularly wear their safety belts when driving or riding in a motor vehicle. Only 77 percent of Missourians buckle up regularly, seven percent less than the national average of 84 percent.

The Liberty Police Department announced today they are joining with law enforcement February 25 for an aggressive “Click It or Ticket” mobilization to crack down on Missouri’s safety belt law violators and to reduce highway fatalities.

Failure to regularly wear a safety belt can be deadly. In 2008, 489 people killed in traffic crashes in Missouri weren’t wearing their seat belt. Seven out of 10 Missourians killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled.

“Every day someone dies in a crash in Missouri because they weren’t buckled up,” said Liberty Police Chief Craig Knouse. “We’ll be out there to remind you seat belts can – and do – save lives every day.”

For information on Missouri seatbelt usage, visit www.saveMOlives.com.
